I’M EATING WELL AND WORKING OUT. WHY AM I STILL NOT IN SHAPE?
The journey to healthy body is different for all of us. Genetics and lifestyle are the two main factors to consider when it comes to our overall health. However, the breakdown on where you need to place the blame on having an unhealthy body is 90% lifestyle and 10% genetics. Genetics are the loaded gun but your lifestyle (aka environment) is the trigger. You may be at risk for high blood pressure and diabetes but if you eat a healthy diet then the chances of having HBP or Diabetes is greatly minimized.
When it comes to our lifestyle there are 3 elements that need your attention:
Sleep is the MOST important. If you have limited, poor quality sleep then nearly every hormone in your body, from cortisol to insulin, is thrown out of whack. Get your sleep and that sets the foundation for everything the next day.
Diet is the SECOND most important b/c it’s through our diet that we fuel and heal our bodies. A diet high in processed carbs, large amounts of sugar, and excess calories are detrimental to our health. Get organic, lean protein and fat in your diet at EVERY, SINGLE meal. No exceptions.
Finally, you need to train! I’m all for any type of training that makes you happy and you enjoy. Mental health is just as important as our physical health. However, some training methods work better than others. I’ve consistently noticed individual’s who spend 80-90% of the time RESISTANCE training and only 10-20% of the time CARDIO training have the lean, fit, healthy bodies most of us want. Hit the weights, get the results.
