When starting a healthy diet many individuals include a large amount of fruit. While organic fruits contain a multitude of vitamins and minerals it is important to understand which ones will help you burn fat. The first thing we have to ask is if the fruit is predominantly fructose or sucrose. Why? Because one of them can help your body kickstart fat burning while the other does not. In order to know why one type of fruit burns fat better than the other we have to understand the difference between fructose and sucrose.
Simply put, fructose is monosaccharide (single sugar unit) and sucrose is a disaccharide (two sugar compound). Both of these sugars are absorbed through your small intestine. However, sucrose is a combination of fructose and another molecule called glucose (fructose is by itself). This is a BIG deal because glucose triggers a stronger response from your body’s insulin levels. Insulin is produced by your pancreas and aids in your body’s ability to take glucose out of your blood stream and convert it to energy. Fructose does this as well but the insulin reaction is not as strong. The stronger the insulin response the better your body can burn fat.
